Liberal Studies (BA) Environmental Studies


Environmental Studies is an interdisciplinary major that integrates study of the environment from the perspectives of the natural sciences, social sciences, and arts and humanities. Students who complete the major will be able to gather and integrate information about environmental problems from multiple disciplines, think critically about the causes of environmental problems, propose effective solutions and evaluate their strengths and weaknesses, and communicate their ideas clearly. Graduates will be well prepared for roles as educated citizens who are especially well informed about the environment and for occupations that require a broad range of knowledge about environmental issues.

Learning Outcomes

Use Interdisciplinary Approach
Combine information from natural science, social science, and the humanities to describe and explain environmental problems and their possible solutions.

Apply Scientific Method
Apply the scientific method to understanding and solving environmental problems

Demonstrate Critical Thinking
Demonstrate critical thinking in written and oral analysis of environmental problems and their possible solutions.

Effective Written and Oral Analysis of Environmental Issues
Create clear, well-organized written and oral analysis of environmental problems and their possible solutions that demonstrate effective writing and speaking skills.
