Students are expected to become proficient in the Biology Student Learning objectives. A student pursuing the Bachelor of Science is expected to develop a stronger background in mathematics and related sciences and to attain a greater understanding of biology than will a student pursuing a Bachelor of Arts degree. Bachelor of Science students will also be strongly encouraged to undertake an individual research project with a faculty member during their junior and/or senior year.

Proficiency in scientific inference
Students will demonstrate proficiency in scientific inference, to include analyzing, interpreting, and evaluating biological data, in the areas of organismal, cellular and molecular biology, genetics, evolutionary biology, and ecology.

Laboratory Skills
Students will demonstrate proficiency in laboratory skills by carrying out investigations using appropriate techniques and equipment in each primary area of biology (organismal, cellular and molecular biology, genetics, evolutionary biology, and ecology).

Communication
Students will demonstrate competence in writing and speaking to explain biological concepts and investigations clearly to scientific and general audiences.

Ethical and Societal Implications
