History (BA)


The Department of History seeks to provide a superior liberal arts education for undergraduates, including students enrolled in general education courses and History majors. Its courses seek to educate students in general historical knowledge; in reading, writing, and critical thinking; and in the methods of historical research.

Learning Outcomes

Analyze Primary Sources
Students will be able to analyze primary sources in appropriate historical contexts.

Analyze Historical Arguments in Secondary Sources
Students will be able to identify and analyze historical arguments in secondary sources.

Carry Out Independent Research
Students will be able to identify a historical problem and address it by carrying out independent research.

Present Clear and Persuasive Written Arguments
Students will be able to use evidence-based reasoning to interpret the past coherently while developing and presenting an original argument, orally and in writing.
