History (MA) Museum Studies


The Museum Studies program provides graduate-level disciplinary training in history with specialized instruction in the theory and practice of public history. The program is grounded in two broad goals:
To gain skills in historical method: Students will hone their ability to ask historical questions, gather and evaluate secondary literature, analyze primary sources, and advance original historical interpretations in writing.
To build pre-professional experience: Students will gain a broad understanding of public history as a field and a practice and will build their own skills through hands-on work.
