Physics (BA)


The mission of the Department of Physics and Astronomy is to: --promote basic and applied research within the disciplines of physics and astronomy --provide exemplary teaching the the disciplines of physics and astronomy --foster intellectual community within the disciplines --promote critical inquiry across discipline boundaries. The BA degree is meant for students who plan to enter the workforce at the end of their bachelors degree, or for those who plan to go to graduate school in a non-Physics area.

Learning Outcomes

Basic Scientific Principles
Students will demonstrate an understanding of the principles and scientific foundations of physics and astronomy.

Role of Physics & Astronomy in Society
Students will be able to articulate the role of physics and astronomy among the sciences and in society.

Application of Current Technology
Students will be able to apply current technology to problem solving and communication.

Problem Solving
Students wil be able to demonstrate problem solving skills in the areas of physics and astronomy.

Experimental Physics Techniques
Students will be able to demonstrate methods and techniques of experimental physics.

Communication Skills
Students will be able to communicate scientific ideas effectively in writing and speaking.
