Political Science (BA)


The mission of the Department of Political Science is to serve its students, the Piedmont Triad region, and the state of North Carolina through our commitment to quality teaching, research, and service in political science and public affairs. The study of political science concepts and the organization and function of political systems enhances students’ critical thinking skills, their understanding of politics and public life, and their engagement in the political process as citizens.

Learning Outcomes

Current Theories
Individual students will be able to articulate current academic theories concerning the basic political structures, institutions, processes, and systems in the United States and abroad.

Logical Argumentation
Individual students will be able to organize a research paper that presents a clear thesis, relevant supporting evidence, and a logical conclusion.

Writing Skills
Individual students will demonstrate correct organization, grammar, and mechanics in the written communication of complex political ideas.
