Applied Arts and Sciences (MA)

Mission

The MA in Applied Arts and Sciences, offered through the Division of Continual Learning, encourages innovative graduate study across traditional disciplinary boundaries. It is designed to enhance the student's ability to:

  1. Think critically and reflectively.
  2. Demonstrate knowledge and understanding of interdisciplinary approaches to real-life problems.
  3. Articulate personal values and understand how they affect workplace and community decisions.
  4. Analyze perspectives of individuals from various cultures and disciplines.
  5. Become familiar with the intellectual approaches characteristic of the humanities, the social sciences, and the sciences.

Learning Outcomes

Successfully Defend Interpretation of Concepts
Students will defend an interpretation of abstract or concrete concepts using supporting documentation.

Develop Effective Writing Skills
Student portfolios will demonstrate writing skills necessary for effective communication and coherent synthesis of materials.

Successfully Integrate Concepts from Across Disciplines
Student portfolios will demonstrate ability to successfully integrate concepts from humanities, social sciences, and physical sciences.

Successfully Apply Various Techniques in Problem-Solving
Student portfolios will demonstrate ability to apply techniques from a range of disciplines to discover solutions to problems.
