Nutrition (BS) Nutrition & Wellness

To prepare students to apply basic nutritional sciences, community nutrition, public health education, and exercise and sport science to the promotion of optimal health in individuals. The student learning goals for the Nutrition and Wellness concentration are consistent with this mission because they emphasize the importance of communication, human behavior, interpretation and research. These abilities enhance the intellectual development of Nutrition and Wellness students and prepares them for a variety of careers.

Learning Outcomes

Communication skills
Students will demonstrate effective use of oral and written communication skills.

Health Behaviors
Students will identify health behaviors and educational needs of diverse populations.

Interpret current research
Students will interpret current research and its application to disease prevention and promotion of health.

Nutrient composition
Students will calculate and interpret nutrient composition of foods.

Life Cycle
Students will determine influence of age, growth, and normal development on nutritional requirements.

Students will describe the role of health care policy and administration as it relates to community nutrition programming.

Students will describe the process of how food is digested, absorbed and metabolized.

Diet and Exercise
Students will prescribe a diet and exercise plan for an athlete or overweight individual.
