Educational Leadership (EdD)


The Doctorate of Education (Ed.D.) represents the highest level of scholarly attainment in the professional field of Education. This degree signifies the attainment of advanced knowledge of education as a scholarly discipline and as a field of professional practice. Graduates will be prepared to complete original research written in a scholarly manner with critical reflections that address important questions or problems in the field of education. Individuals awarded the Ed.D. by the School of Education at the University of North Carolina at Greensboro, as intellectual and professional leaders, are expected to make significant contributions to the improvement of education through leadership roles in educational organizations, civic and community organizations, professional associations, and professional scholarship.

Learning Outcomes

Write in a Scholarly Manner
Students will fully utilize the EdD program's core curriculum in order to write in a scholarly manner.

Mastery of Specific Problem
Students will demonstrate mastery of a specific problem drawn from the field of education, citing relevant education literature and theory, and using appropriate research methods.

Research in Dissertation
Students will research important questions and/or problems in the field of education. Students will begin systematic research on this topic during core research courses and collect pilot data for two semesters prior to completing their proposals.
