Welcome!

Academic assessment is an integral part of ensuring the continual improvement of academic programs. The Office of Academic Assessment:

  • Seeks to promote the scholarly practice of assessment at UNCG by promoting assessment activities
  • Consult with campus groups to address assessment questions
  • Review assessment plans as part of the regular departmental review process
  • Coordinate and facilitate assessment in general education
  • Respond to SACS accreditation requirements
  • Provide financial support for special projects in assessment

Why do we engage in academic assessment?

As educators we belong to a culture of scholarship. As scholars we are committed
to academic excellence. The goal of academic assessment is not to simply
evidence of student excellence, but to use that evidence to improve
student learning. The target of academic assessment is the program curriculum.
The truly important things that we want students to achieve are the result of a
curriculum in which students' skills, knowledge and abilities are fostered, nurtured
and reinforced systematically throughout their college experience.
