UNC Greensboro uses a number of measures to evaluate and continuously improve its student achievement performance. In keeping with the University of North Carolina (UNC) System Strategic Plan, the University tracks progress on a set of core metrics with respect to threshold and stretch goals relative to the baseline year, 2020. Threshold and stretch goals are set by the UNC System. Among these metrics are the four-year graduation rate and degree efficiency (the number of degrees awarded annually per 100 full time equivalent students).

Four-year graduation rate measures the percentage of first-time, full-time, bachelor’s degree-seeking students that earned a baccalaureate degree from any institution in the United States within four years of starting at a UNC Greensboro.

Undergraduate degree efficiency measures the number of undergraduate credentials awarded per 100 Full-Time Equivalent (FTE) undergraduates. Credentials include associate and baccalaureate degrees. FTE is calculated as the total number of degree-seeking undergraduate credits divided by 30, the standard ratio set by IPEDS.

UNC Greensboro uses the IPEDS (Integrated Postsecondary Education Data System) report for graduation data for full-time, first-time degree-seeking undergraduates who complete their degrees within six years and compares them to the peer institutions. According to the U.S. Department of Education IPEDS Graduation Rate definition publication, “IPEDS graduation rates (GR) are reflective of full-time, first-time, degree-/certificate-seeking students who started and finished at the same institution. Students included in graduation rates do not represent all of the students at an institution (e.g., GR excludes part-time and transfer students).”

First-Year Retention definition
First-Year Retention measures the percentage of first-time, full time-students bachelor’s degree-seeking students who started their post-secondary educational careers in a fall term (or the summer before their first full-time fall) and enrolled in any number of hours the following fall term.

School of Nursing
The National Council Licensure Examination for Registered Nurses (NCLEX) is a national examination for the licensing of nurses. Prior to 2016 the acceptable pass rate as established in the school of Nursing’s Systematic Evaluation Plan was 90%. In 2016 a new evaluation plan was established by the School of Nursing, using that year’s 88% pass rate as the baseline, with a goal of 95% by 2022. This goal has already been surpassed with a passing rate of 97% in 2017 and 95% in 2018, both above the national and state average passing rate, with just a slight dip below the target in 2019.

School of Education
The Initial Licensure Summary Pass Rate is the normed test measure that UNC Greensboro uses to assess its teacher education program student achievement. The University’s goal is to meet or exceed the state average pass rate, which varies from year to year. Since that state rate is presented post-hoc, the University also seeks to improve rates from the previous year. The Statewide Pass Rate is presented with the institution’s results in the following table.
